71 T/D Tee Bird
Awsome forum look forward to spending some time here..
I have recently been given a T/D Tee Bird by a friend. I picked it up today and started to figure out what it needs. The batteries are done for sure, all of them have froze and split open. And the charger has gone missing. Called my local battery guy and he wasts $700.00 CND for six 6volts. A charger seems to be in the $300 dollar range. I am having a tuff time justifying spending that kind of money on such an old cart. I know the motor is fine as I have tested it. My plan for this cart was to take it to a trailer park in the summer and use it to visit my friends around the park. I was wondering If i could get away with 12v batteries instead of the 6volts. I realise they would not last as long but I wont be driving it all that much either. Any info you guys can provide would be appreciated. Styles |

Re: 71 T/D Tee Bird
so would you use just 3 12v instead of the original 6 6v? i have liek 8 deep cycle marine batterys layign around and was thinking about trying to wire 3 up in series instead of buying new 6's.

Re: 71 T/D Tee Bird
jeffsciv23,
Yes that was the plan. I managed to get ahold of mobility scooter batteries and have installed them. I can tell you that they are very limited. They will do the job for this year as I am not going too far from the charger, but they have left me stranded once already. If you have the ability to put 6 6v in, I would recommend it. Also, I have been playing arround with the idea of installing 6 12v batteries in a combination of series and parallel. This is also not recommended but I figure it is worth a try as I get the batteries for free. |

Re: 71 T/D Tee Bird
Hard to explaine...
You would wire three seperate groups of two in parallel and then connect the three groups in series. I think that explains it. Cheers |
