This thread is the first one I have found where people are hacking the controllers on their carts. AWESOME! I just wish it hadn't taken 2 years to find it. I have a Curtis 1510-5201 controller, which looks just like a Sepex 1266. I am going to build this cable this weekend, but I am wondering: Why not just chop the end off a USB cable and wire that into the Molex plug? USB is +_5V and talks serially. Software can be programmed for all the handshaking. Anyway, anybody try it this way already?

they are two totally different methods for exchanging data. the ony way that might work is if you lucked out and chopped off the end of a cell phone programming cable that has a ttl-serial adapter embedded in the other end.

heres a excellent usb converter. [URL="http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716"]www.sparkfun.com FTDI/URL]. made in the US too!

i haven't read any this thread yet... looks like fun!

Hi,

I realized I never showed the cable I use.
I did not have a comport on my laptop, and allready had a usb-ttl cable for programming kenwood radio's so I decided to use that.

The KPG-46 of KPG-4 (USB) cables are cheap via ebay. Adding a ATX power connector, a 74ls04 invertor and making 5 volts for the 74ls04 is all that is needed to get things talking.
The KPG-4/46 cable should not cost you mare than 10 euro! It most likely uses a profilic usb uart chip. But drivers will probably be provided.

The schematic shows the kpg-4/46 cable as a comport version, both comport and usb versions can be used. the USB version does not even need the 13.8V connected. A smart guy could even get 5V out of the USB interface for powering the 74ls04.
I used a zener diode for creating 5V, an 78L05 of 7805 will do the trick just as well, but it allready got crowded in the "soapbox" housing.

Regards,

Edwin

i use just rs232 directly connected to pins 1,2,3 of the molinx
i have the 1314 oem software but it gives "unknown error" when i try without connected i get just a timeout, looks like theres communication but no compatibillity? are there variations in the software?

Just popping in and saying hi, done the downloads and stored safely, hopefully i will find the time to get a cable built soonish and have a go with my 1235...

It was removed from a luggage tug that had a forward/back style throttle but i just need a simple forwards/stop throttle, if i cant win with software i'll fix it in hardware....

And a mention to the guys on endless sphere for pointing me over in this direction.

Lez.

i can see how it could get lost, were almost at 17pg's. the link still looks to be active. BTW you must be careful with the program. Ive stated before, it gives you OEM access control, and care must be taken when your messing around with parameters that you dont know what you can do. you could turn your controller into a nice door stop pretty quickly.

I really wish i could help out more here, but realtiy is i havent had much time to tinker some more, letalone spend alot of time on the fourm. Ive been watching the thread thus far, and alot of people have been giving out some really useful info on their setup. thumbs up to you guys!

Today i also decided to see if anyone else has been posting about this thread on other forums. seems like alot have been using this info to their advantage
