Here is a link to the picture of a reed switch. Are you sure your cart has one of them? Or was there a 60 amp fuse on your main positive terminal of battery #1? If your cart has the fuse, it won't have the reed switch. I just can't remember what year EZGO made the switch? |

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
Just for a tidbit of information to the ignorant, what is a reed switch and what does it do? One might go bad on mine one day.

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
It is a "fuse" link in the charger harness. The main reason it that when connected to the charger, the cart will not "drive". It's a saftey feature. When they go bad, it breaks the circut and the cart wont complete the electrical circut / operate. Not a common issue, unless you have alot of electrical outages, lightening storms, bad charger / DC connections, etc.
A simple way to check for a bad reed switch is to run a jumper wire from the main microswitch on the F/R to the main positive. This is ONLY A GOOD TEST. If your cart shows to have a bad reed switch, then replace it. I have seen many used carts where the reed switch was bypassed and more electrical problems resulted from this fuse being gone... |

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
A Reed Switch is a sealed switch that's controlled via a magnetic field. How that's used in a golf cart is beyond me.

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
Yes - basically a "fuse". A 60 amp fuse has replaced them at the DC harness positive wire going to the main postive battery terminal. Where the Reed switch used to be is simply a wire loop - IF you are running the newer fuse assembly...

Must admit, I'm wondering why they call it a "Reed switch" when it's obviously not? These buggies get stranger by the day. |

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
It is a magneticly activated switch, not a fuse. A magnet in the charger handle causes the contacts in the Reed switch to draw together and complete a simple circuit in the cart.

Re: Reed Switch Ezgo 206
I knew someone would come along soon with the correct description I've always 'described' it as a fuse-ish type of part...
