1977 TaylorDunn restoration

I am starting my first restoration on a 1977 TaylorDunn gt3-70 golf cart-electric.It is very rough,but it is the only one in my area for $100.I like a challenge as well.I am retired at 42 so I have alot of free time to rebuild it,and I am going to fab everything myself so it will be a cheap rebuild as well.The last owner said it ran last year,so we will see.I have the batteries charging and they seem fine so far,will load test when done.I am doing the mechanical first,to make sure it all works before I make it pretty.The batteries are new last year and the motor is newer as well,it is just rusted and needs alot of new metal.It will keep me moving all winter,which is what I need with my oesteoarthritus,I can still move just with alot of pain.I will keep posting updates and pics as I go as well as ask questions as problems creep up.Now for the pics of the beast.[IMG][/IMG]

wierd,first one i have seen with right hand drive.Or I just woke up and can't see cleerly.lol

No progress yet as I am just stripping it down right now,but I am also closing the trailer and getting ready for the snow so progress will be slow for abit.As for the right hand drive,it is not right hand drive,for some reason my cell phone takes all pics and reverses them,not sure why,and not sure if all phones do this but mine does.I will take progress pics with my ditigal camera.Good luck with your td rebuild.

I am good friends with our jitney repair guy who works on all our TD and Cushman buggies and flatbeds at the factory.If you need some help with questions I can try and ask him.He knows his stuff on all these electric industrial carts.

Thanks for the offer of advise from jackel440,I may have to take you up on that someday,nice that you have a guy you work with that can help you,makes a huge difference when someone knowledgable is on hand.I myself am on my own up here in snowland.

Here is afew pics of cart torn down alittle more,cart is on stands with tires off and most trim pieces are off as well.Next step is putting in the batteries and seeing if it will go,batts charged up no problem,will load test first.After that I have to fix the steering alittle,it needs a couple of tie rods.Then I need to cut out a whole lot of sheet metal,and put in some new.Will take some time though.

i have a 77, your going to have problems on the circuit board with the throttle contacts they are going to start to arc of a period of time, eventually the throttle will stick and not move, never figured out how to fix it, so i am putting in a motor cycle engine in now

Ok interesting question for you.Does it only have brakes on the pinion shaft?My flatbed has hydraulic drum brakes on the axle ends ,and the parking brake is on the pinion just like yours.Mine has the pretty much exact same motor,drive chain case and rearend setup as yours.Make sure there is oil in that chain case!If not the #35 double row chain and sprockets will be toast.You don't wnt to buy those.They are through the roof for the pinion one.I priced it at over $200 and the motor sprocket at $50.Just a little fyi for you.Make sure the seals are good and it has oil in it.
Looking like a nice start.

As far as the controls.My friend just converts everything to new electronics.He uses cushman parts to change out the outdated systems as in these older carts.They are more reliable then plus you can get parts then.
