Default American Pride Electric Cart accelerator problems

I have a 1996 American Pride golf cart, with the cart in forward when I push on the accelerator no movement until I get the pedal half way depressed and then if I press an more I loss power again. When the cart is in reverse there are still loss of power issues at the begining of the pedal but once you get the pedal pressed halfway down the cart will start moving backward and you can press the pedal all the way to the floor and it will continue to work. Any help would be great. Thanks

American pride? They were in business for about a year, cart is based on an ezgo/melex. I havent seen one in years, kinda like a shuttle craft ( anyone seen one of those). If I am not mistaken they used a PB 6 POT, if that is the case, more than likely the POT just needs adjusted.
