Juice up a bad boy
I have started seeing Bad Boy Buggies advertised for sale. Will they respond to extra voltage? I have driven one before and it was slooooow. Any ideas about bumping volts to two motors?

Re: Juice up a bad boy
They will respond like any other car, however, remember this.. those cars already have eight batteries in them, have an motor and rear end on the front, are loaded with accessories and are used for carrying stuff.
They are built on a E-Z go frame and axles which are not made for the weight they currently have. I keep getting Bad Boy buggies in with broken rear axles because of this. To bump voltage you are talking about adding even more weight to them. Unless you have a way of modifying the axles I wouldn't suggest pushing luck any further. |

Re: Juice up a bad boy
I got an email from badboy rep and was told the controller would not accept higher volts. Also was told new badboys use sepex system and run in the 20-22mph range. A small improvement but not enough for me. I'll stay with my old ezgo and start checking out the Rhinos and others.

The controller's can be replaced with a higher volt & amp.

Re: Juice up a bad boy
They come with 1000amp controllers, so it would seem to me it would get real expensive real quick to upgrade, but I did same thing with old resistor cart.

Re: Juice up a bad boy
Are those axles being broke from offroading or using them to pull plows and harrows for food plots?

Re: Juice up a bad boy
I tend to think EZ-GO has weak axles but since I do not own one I can't say for sure if it is weak axles or improper torque on the hubs. I do know 70 horsepower has not broken a Club Car axle.
I am not trying to down talk EZ-GO, this is just my observance and applys to electric only. |

Re: Juice up a bad boy
I haven't personally seen a Ezgo axile break before. I have seen a bunch of hubs go though! I think the key to keeping the hubs torqued to the axiles. I have had 72 volts to the Mud Buggie now for right at three years now. I spun the hub at the 2 Bonanza. I put the new ones on when I got back and haven't had anymore issues with it. I check the torque about every six month or so. Haven't found any play yet.
