Default Charger, Automatic, or manual/timer

I have a Cushman 36LC25-8ET charger that I picked up at the scrapyard. It was hard-mounted to an industrial truck, so has no output cable & connector. To test it, I used a couple of clip leads to connect the output to my elderly Legend cart. As expected, after a couple of seconds delay, a relay clicked and it began charging. My clip leads aren't heavy enough to carry the load for very long (they got warm almost immediately), but the charger seemed to be working fine. It seems obvious that disconnecting it while it's charging would be a Bad Thing, causing arcing. The unit appears to be manufactured by Lester, then rebranded.

Presently, I use a Lester charger with a 12-hour timer. This works well, but I do have to kinda guess at state of charge when setting the timer. I have about 4 of these things sitting around, but a couple are 'condition unknown'.

It seems like a fully-automatic outfit would be nice, but are those things dependable? Can I just leave it connected to the cart, which often sits for a week or more w/o use? Does it compensate for older batteries that might not reach "full" voltage?

Also: my cart has the older 2-prong plug that has the 2 exposed blades at an angle to each other. IE: / \ Is there a technical name or NEMA number for this connector?

Thanks!!

Default Re: Charger, Automatic, or manual/timer

You probably have an automatic charger that will shut down when the charge is complete.
The plug you're looking for is called a crowfoot plug it should be available form one of the sponsors here and looks like this:
