Default Surprise Controller

I just started to dismantle my new to me 89 36v CC thinking it was a resistor cart( hot resistor warning sign) only to find a Curtis 24/36v controller. I think this is a good thing after reading all the posts in the various forums. Can I get more speed by just upgrading the controller? If so how much? and what hp is the motor? I am guessing it is stock since there is no rating on the motor itself only the model #5bc48jb764.

Welcome to the forum JR, I also have an 89 CC. I think they are a gd yr. 12:1 rear-axle ratio. How are your batteries? I got mine minus batteries so I put a set of 8 volts in it and the 48v pack has really juiced the little cart. I have bought a controller for it but I haven't got to put it in yet. I think that will be the best set up for it. That looks like a stock #. My motor says 3.2 hp on it. Good luck! Can you post some pics?

Default Re: Surprise Controller

There's not much to look at yet....I wanted to send pictures of the motor and controller with my post, but being new to this sight didn't have time to figure it out. I will have to work on that. My objective is to make it street legal so I can run my errands around town within a 5 mile radius. Naturally I want it to look nice so I have started with a little fiber glass repair on the cowl and will be painting the whole buggy, then lights ,horn, signals, mirrors etc next. The batteries seem to be in fair shape 2004"s,but will need to be replaced eventually(another forum question). The cart wasn't used much by the previous owner and if I can get away with a new controller verses 48 conversion and new controller then I would be happy. It needs tires in the front so I was thinking of a 4 to 6 in. spindle lift and some offset tires. Of course I know nothing about any of this and my Wife thinks I am crazy but it ran when I got it and it will run better when I am done. Thanks for the "Welcome"
