70's Cushman Golfster
If this is the wrong sub section for Cushman, let me know where to go.
I've had this for a few years. I don't recall what year it is as i can't find the photo I took of the tag containing the year and the cart is at my cabin. I use it for my kids to drive around. It has 2 year old batteries and the original charger. Since i put the new batteries in it, the charge on them only lasts about 15 minutes of riding and then is dead. I have made sure the connections to each post are tight. What else can I do to extend the use time? Shouldn't it last for several hours or a day? Here's a pic of the motor and batteries. |

Re: 70's Cushman Golfster
Are those deep cycle golf cart batteries? They look like automotive type. That will kill your run time if they're automotive batteries! Also are you letting it charge until your charger times out? You have a timer type charger, correct? If you have an automatic charger let it charge until it shuts off automatically. This normally takes several hours, and possibly as much as 16.

They are Dura start HD1 batteries. They say "commercial/ agricultural" on the side.

you need deep cycle batteries a starter battery is not a good battery for a golf cart unless it is a gas cart.

Re: 70's Cushman Golfster
You need golf cart deep cycle batteries as noted above. Even with the proper batteries it only takes one bad one to run you down quickly. With the proper batteries you can have ours of fun. You can check all wiring by going to vintage golf cart parts and they show cushman diagrams and also have parts. Those Cushman are beast and can take a beating and be a blast.
