Default Hunting Machines

Hi, I am new to these forums and want to ask for opinions.
I am interested in building/restoring electric golf carts into usuable, reliable and inexpensive hunting machines for the average Joe.

I was wondering what you guys thought of a base? I was leaning towards EZGO or making it from scratch.

Motors, frame, batteries, etc....any input would be welcome.

Thank you very much.

Welcome to BGW

In order to build them into a suitable hunting machine (opinions vary on what is suitable) You start with a base machine add a lift, tires and wheels and a drive system capable enough for the woods and make it reliable enough to not leave anyone stranded IMO they won't be inexpensive.

Cool Re: Hunting Machines

Welcome Gridchip!

Roady is right about the expense part. These things are addictive. One mod leads to another and another and so on. IMO I would rather have a gas powered model but that is a personal preference. Keep your eye out for one that is already modified. You could benefit from someone else's troubles.

So far great and thank you. Expensive is a relative term. The Bad Boys Buggy is $9k. I think thats stiff for alot of average hunters imho. I am hoping to come to my local market with a maching in the $4-$6k range. Do you think thats not realistic? Is there a source for plans on frames if I want to make my own?

I plan on buy a couple of stock carts to disassemble and learn. Keep the coments coming and Thanx again.

Your budget is about twice what I was thinking. For that price range I think you could build a very very nice hunting machine. I know you can buy a bare frame but I don't know of any frame plans. There is a ezgo frame for sale on ebay right now. Search for ezgo workhorse and it will pop up. (at least is was there yesterday).

If your going the electric route, I would try to build the best electronics package and make it reliable. A little overkill it not gonna hurt a thing here. Don't go for high horsepower motors, shoot for low rpm torque motors. Low rpm torque motors tend to be more reliable and more efficiant.

Welcome to the forum Gridchip..................

One bit of advise I can give you is: Don't make them 4 wheel drive. I know too many folks who have 4wd carts and they don't use the front wheel drive or they have disconnected the front. They all say the cart will go anywhere the 4wd would take them but is more officiant in 2wd.
