Default awg battery cables

I bought some 2AWG battery cables on ebay. (I know Scotty sells them, I contacted him, but didn't get a price so I was looking around--no disrespect intended!)
Seller states they are:
2 Awg Excelene welding Cable BLk Golf Cart Battery

I was little surprised that the cables werent bigger and heavier,
is 2AWG welding wire the same as 2g? stupid question, seems like they are the same.
wondered if a significant difference might be that the old cables are larger stranded, whereas the new cables are welding cable.
Could this account for the new cables seeming somewhat lighter weight?
I don't want to skimp money or quality on the cables
thanks

thanks

awg is just that (american wire gague) the international standard is circular mills. 2 awg is 2 awg solid or stranded however many strands it might be

thanks. on closer exam, both the old and the new cable say " 2 xcelene..+105C" and the new one also says 32mm(2-squared) welding cable

the terminal on the new one also says MX 2-5/16 so it is 2g cable

maybe the old ones are bigger around because they are swollen with crud, they are crunchy when you bend them.the new ones are much more flexible.

You cant judge by the OD of the insulation. One may be thicker then the other. The AWG is the cross section of the wire core. If they are the same gauge and there is a weight difference per/ft, the lighter one could be CCA (copper clad alum.)

I don't know what things are like in the land of the free and the brave...but insulation thickness has lessened across the board here.

Improvements in plastic has meant that it can be much thinner.

The mains cable we wire our houses with is now near half the size in appearance, but has the same amount of copper in it.

That is of course with the exception of discount auto shop jumper leads and speaker cables, where there is often way more plastic than copper.

If the manufacturers have been honest and are measuring actual copper present, a fine stranded cable (actual copper) will be ever so slightly smaller in diameter than the same in coarse stranded because of the space between the strands

#2 guage is most definitely 32mm square...give or take

cheers
