You could..........but your run time will SUCK. You may already know that though. If you run 144 you will burn up the resistors and more than likely some other stuff.

If you want to do it right you will need to buy the proper components. Speed controller capable of running 144 volts, charger, high voltage solenoid, the right motor and cables....probly some other stuff. If it were cheap and easy everyone would be doing it....sadly, it's not possible yet.

Sure, you COULD, but the question is, WHY? What is your main use for the cart, and what do you WANT it to be used for? Why was it changed over to 3 12v batteries? Budget? Regular 12v automotive batteries do NOT have the capacity of 6v or 8v golf cart batteries, so 3 12v batteries will not provide as much power, or run time, nor will they have as long of a life. In fact you're likely get about 20% of the lifespan from those compared to real golf cart batteries.

While everyone wants more power, and sometimes want to save a buck, you do "get what you pay for".

As roady89 mentioned, it will require some changes to do it right, and those changes are likely to require a fair amount of work and a fairly strong budget. :)

I'd stick with the 36v, or upgrade to just 48v, but wouldn't go beyond that if you're just using it for light cruising. I know a few people that use their carts for the same thing, and I have ridden around collecting cans from the neighborhood myself a time or two, and I don't think I'd want higher voltage and more speed while doing that. Getting home at the end of the hunt a little FASTER might be nice though. :)
