Default Bad Boy Buggy Cutting Out

A buddy of mine brought his '95 buggy, 48 volt, over as he's having problems with it. When it's in 2 wheel drive or auto, it cuts out going forward or reverse for about 25 feet. He has to shut it off then turn it back on and it'll run for 25 feet and do it again. I spoke BBB and asked one of their techs what it could be, he said it's the reverse solenoid. So my buddy spends $500 on a new one. I switch it out for him and it still does it. It runs perfect in 4 wheel drive with no issues. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? Thanks in advance!
