New to this, need Melex INFO!
I just bought a Melex (for 2 cases of beer) and really have no idea what im doing as far as building, i have the fab know how but as far as golf carts go im inexperienced. Its a 212 serial number 166420. Im wondering what motor is in it stock (model number, hp, rpm, ect) and if there are any high performance replacements, what rear end is it in (dana, ect), what speed control it would have, and just any general info anyone might have on it. Anyone lifted one, done any performance mods, ect? So far i have built a stereo, dash bezel, and soon to chop the roof down about 6 or so inches. But im open to any suggestions, tips, hints, trick, and options.... so please all input is welcomed greatly......

Re: New to this, need Melex INFO!
Welcome. I'm in a similar boat. When I saw you were from Texas I checked to see where you were, but you're a long way from Dallas. My thread is this one:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...12-refurb.html You can see what I've done so far and the advice given to me. Now that hunting season is upon us my cart work has ground to a halt, but it'll pick up here in a bit. I did pick up some angle today to repair the battery boxes. I've learned enough to say that you have a very basic, resistor, EZ-Go clone. There aren't going to be lift kits and the like available for it. Post a picture, I'd like to see what you've got. Depending on what kind of beer it was you might want to go back and demand a 6 pack back.
Do a search on this site for melex, plenty of info in the files. Do a google search as well for it and learn, take notes and develope a game plan on what direction you want to go. Pappy always said "git learnd about a gun befor'in ya shoot it!!" |

Re: New to this, need Melex INFO!
Well it was 2 cases of miller lite. The cart is in pretty decent shape, i need to rebuild the front frame work from where it has been hit but its nothing i cant fix. and from there ill start with building the lift. Ill need get some angle to redo the battery box and do a lil sheet metal work on the front body work. Other than that its in really good condition. It got some new batteries mixed in with a few older one, but they are soon to be replaced and ill keep the new ones for spares or other projects. Ill try to get some pics uploaded so ya'll can see what im workin with but bare with me i have dial up so it might take a while to get a few up.

Wow, mine is a total pile of junk compared to yours, and cost way more than a couple cases of beer. Looks good to me so far, but I'm a novice so that aint saying much. What made you choose flat black for a color? Around here that would very very hot in the summer.

Re: New to this, need Melex INFO!
If he's like me, he happened to have a whole bunch of flat black spray cans sitting around... lol
That or because it's $1-2 a can for the generic stuff, so it's a nice cheap way to go. I paid about $150 for my Melex, and had to put $500 into it (new batteries) to put it on the road, so his 2 cases of Miller Lite ($16-18 a case) was a bargain in my opinion. I'd buy them all day long for that price. lol |

Re: New to this, need Melex INFO!
Flat black was my color of choice becuase i like the old school look, plus the flat black matches the car i run at my local 1/4 track so the go together. And i got the 2 cases of Miller Lite for 26 bucks, and mine has a few new batteries and a few old ones i have to replace, but yeah i think i got a good deal on it and its something to mess with in my spare time.

Good trade on your part. If you're going old school how about red rims with some small baby moons.
Keep us posted on the progress. |
