Shortening the coils in a resistor cart
I have a old coil cart.......I know that I am lossing alot of power and I wonder if I shorten the length of each coil ( speed ) will that help in increasing the speed and make it more efficiant......Ha aby one done this and what do you all think

Re: Shortening the coils in a resistor cart
It has been discussed but, I don't know if anyone has done it? THe concensus is that WOT is WOT. In fact you are already getting everything the batteries have to give by the time you hit WOT there are no coils in use!
Sounds like you have old corrosive small cables? Worn brushes? Old batteries. Most likely a combo of cables and batteries.....It is a repeating problem here in the electric cart forum.... |

Re: Shortening the coils in a resistor cart
That is true......Have done alot of cleaning.....Just thinking about ht e resistant factor.....Sound like not worth the time and HEADACHE.............Cleaned the brushes and that did make it better...........
Thanks |

Re: Shortening the coils in a resistor cart
Old thread I know but I'll throw this in anyway.
The resistor coils are "tuned" by resistance and that is mostly by wire gauge and by length. If you start messing around with the resistance value in either length or gauge then you will not like the ride from STOP to WOT. Best way to drive a resistor cart and what most do is keep the cart floor boarded or lift completely . That is what the original design was for on a golf course. |

Re: Shortening the coils in a resistor cart
all those coilds do is disapate heat i don,t think theres any way to get any speed by doing anything to them matter of fact i think the reverse is true i think if you shorten them you,ll creat more heat and have a greater risk of fire, have you ever seen one of those resistor boards with all the cables fo up in flames? i have..............................................
