Default upgrade original or trade in?

I have a 99 cart 2013 batteries, that cosmetically is just how I want it, but speed/torque isn't there. It's about 3 miles each way to/from the beach and it's just not quick enough. Should I upgrade the motor and get a lift & tires or trade it in for something better?

From quickly checking around I'd get about $1,000 from a dealer to trade in, or maybe $2,000 at best on craigslist.. So do I get a new cart for about $4,500-$5,000 before trade in value or spend about $2,000 on upgrades to my current cart? Decisions decisions! Help me out!

If your cart is just how you like it, and not "beat down/worn into the ground", keep it & upgrade it. We just built a TXT with a SPM400 and "raptor" motor on 48v that will do plenty over thirty mph and slide around a corner if you like (plenty of torque).

If what you have is in good condition, it's worth upgrading. Should be much cheaper than trading up unless you find one with all of the upgrades you want for a good price.

I guess I'm on the the other side of the spectrum. I am new to carts, sooo that out of the way. I bought a 2012 g29 drive straight off the course 2300.00, has 2 years of warranty left. I added the speed option for 150.00.........money wasted. Then I ordered a Jakes 6" lift with 22" tires, 702.00. I installed it and really like it.So I am sitting in at roughly 3k right now. I still have to upgrade the motor(600.00) and then the controller once its released. I would not want to drive my 2012 in beach sand with the lift and stock motor. It does not have much low end torque with the 22" tires. I have to take a run at steep inclines.
Lots of upgrades for your cart, its old enough to have them. Breakout the credit card and enjoy
Keep in mind I am a newbie to carts. JMHO
Oh yeah, my cart does not even look like what I want...yet.

Yep, no one ever said the ptv speed code unlocked any torque (no one on here anyway). If it did not add any speed, then the dealer did not install it properly. The stock controller is weak IMO with big tires/lift. The stock Moric controller allows adjustment of top speed and regen strength, THATS ALL...

Saltbranch--just curious what speed you had before the PTV code change and what speed after. Mine went from 13 to 19/20. Like Cgtech said, if you didn't 19 out of the upgrade, something is wrong. If I were you, I would wait and get the controller upgrade first and see what you get before the motor change. I don't think the Moric controller will support a speed motor properly.

The Moric controller barely supports the stock motor properly... It is not suitable for any high performance use as far as i have seen. And i have been here since the drive came out.

I vote for upgrade. Ask plumquick what they can do for you.

I'm a newbie and I had the same decision with myself yesterday. Then I came to my senses and decided to keep it and do the upgrades on it.This way it will by done the way I want it and they don't have to be done all at once.
My vote is keep yours and do it the way you want it your way.
