How to change the ignition? key is jammed

I have an older yamaha electric cart, when I put the key in and turn, it just keeps spinning and I have to mess with it for 5 minutes of pressing hard until it will actually turn on.

What do I need to purchase so that a new key and ignition will work? Is it hard to install? or just splice the current wires and stick the new one in?

I believe that is what I need. It looks like my current one. However I am not sure hot to get it out? It just keeps spinning all the way left or right, whats the trick to getting it out?

Perhaps the current one is fine, just is not attached to the dash correctly?

Make sure its not the complete switch turning inside the dash. There is a plastic lock nut that can get loose. If its the key spinning inside then just order the replacement switch. Loosen the lock nut, unplug at the harness and reinstall. Very easy.

The entire assembly seems to be spinning inside the dash. Not just the key. with the key inserted and I turn, the entire things keeps turning. How do I secure it?

Where is this lock nut?

The link you posted above the lock nut is the 8 sided piece right where the key inserts.

You will need to get to the back side of the switch and hold it tight while tightening the lock nut.

that is the part that is sticking out of the dash that continues to spin in circles. So it will not losen or tighted. Does that make sense?

Sounds like the plastic lock nut is cross threaded onto the plastic threaded shaft on the ign ition switch.
