Yamaha Charger
I haven't been around in a while and well I got a issue.
The cart as been sitting in my workshop for about a month due to the cold and rainy weather we've been having and we finally got some decent weather this week , so I pulled the cart out the shop and plugged it in to top off the batteries. I have a 48 v Yamaha charger and my issue is it will not shut off or reset if the unit is unplugged from the cart. The batt.pak started off about 49.4 v and the charger is putting out around 56v at the pak. I have yet to let it run a complete cycle because I'm concerned it will cook the batteries, so I've been monitoring it with a test meter. All my batteries individually check around 8.2 - 8.3v . If the charger is working, it won't cook the batteries. It's perfectly fine to charge batteries that are almost fully charged already.

What exact charger model ect? And 56v is generally not high enough voltage for the charger to decide the batteries are "full". Always used only distilled water?

I'm aware of the voltage during a charging session. I always use distilled water. It's a Yamaha 48 v charger model # SCR481717 . It's been charging for about 10 hours this go around.
Like I said earlier , my main concern is if I go and pull the plug on the cart while it is charging , it will continue to run and not cut off. I have to unplug the charger from the wall outlet to turn the unit off . |

Is it possible that your MAC charger has had a "aftermarket" control board installed? the non-oem boards are known for problems like this. Is there any way you could measure the amps being fed to the pack (inductive amp meter, ect)? If the board is found to be the problem, just get a DPI, costs the same amount as a OEM board for your charger. I do have access to some diagnostic info for that model charger that i could possibly get. If the amps fed is still fairly high (10a or more), but the battery voltage doesnt increase after hours of charging, i would be suspecting battery issues.

I will try to get test info tomorrow. What brand & age batts? What are the individual battery voltages after on charge for a while?

I went and unplugged it for tonight. Didn't feel comfortable letting it go all night. Batteries are 8v Interstate golf cart batteries. They are right at 5 yrs old and are slated to be replaced this summer. I will check the voltage in the morning .
