Default 2011 Yamaha Drive Accelerator

We just bought a 2011 Yamaha drive about a month ago and noticed that the accelerator is very touchy. If you step on it like normal the pedal will go a ways without the cart going, then it will take off like you stepped it to the floor. If you press it slowly it will start slow and go like normal, but you have to press it pretty slowly.

Not sure it this is related or not, but you also have to press the accelerator quite a ways down to release the parking brake, so we usually turn the key off, step the accelerator down to release the brake then turn it back on and go.

Personally, i always unlock the brake pedal before i turn the key on (press the "go" pedal to pop the brake pedal, then key on). Sounds like you might need to adjust the throttle cable. I start my adjustments at the connection from "governor to carb" (others may disagree). Check for linear motion at the throttle blade (carb throttle lever) that coincides with the pedal. adjust till the carb starts to open "just after" the switch allows the engine to "crank over". Just enough to get full throttle when pedal is "mashed". It must not start to open before the cart starts "cranking" to start. Its a little of a balance act to get it perfect. This is one of those adjustments where i could show you in 1 minute, but "running solo" it seems "Uh- HUH?". Unfortunately, the yamaha factory has a bad record for adjusting it right, and not consistent either .......... I have seen new FI carts that got 50% throttle max, and it didnt do anything at all 'till the pedal was half-way down, fresh off the factory line.

Thanks for the reply CG. I was wondering about some type of adjustment on the accelerator. I should have said that it is an electric cart. Is there still an adjustment that can be made on the accelerator cable? I did adjust the brake cable since it had to be pushed almost to the floor to get it to brake. That helped some but I think I might adjust it a little more.

No accelerator cable. The potentiometer is fixed onto the pedal assembly. The main shaft has a petruding peice of metal that engages into the potentiometer and as the pedal is pushed, turns it. Might check to see if the pedal is binding and that the accelerator splines are not stripped were it clamps down on the main shaft. Pot's just don't go bad that often, but it could be faulty.

There you go talking about gas cars in the electric section.

This device is like the CC mcor. I wonder if it too gets a corrosive build up on the contacts that can be reduced by cycling the pedal 30-40 times... sort of swiping it clean.

Yep, i was typing when i shoulda been sleeping...try again... Check the throttle sensor for smooth operation 0-5v will get up to about 4.8v at full throttle. Sensor is fed 5v.
