Default Couple newbie questions

Hi all

My, albeit limited, experience is with ezgo electric. But I have a friend who's interested in buying a used Yamaha electric from what appears to be a reputable dealer. Still, a couple answers she got from the salesman seem dubious.

If I can ask you guys a couple questions maybe I can help her. Dealer says it's a 2011. If there's more to the model, I don't know what it is, but I saw a picture. Looks like it's a standard golf course style. It's a 2 seater, no windshield, has a stock looking top, and the golf bag holders on the rear. 48 volt. Located in south central Texas.

What is the top speed the factory controller can be set to? Where is the serial number plate located so I can look up the year of manufacture? I'm away from the house and using my cell phone for Internet access. Can someone post a link to the Yamaha web page where I can check the serial number re year of manufacture?

Any other tips to look for would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Max speed for stock controller is 19mph (with factory PTV speed code, only available @ yamaha dealer). If you follow the drain spouts through the body, under the seat, you will find a sticker with a barcode & SN on a metal support just in front of the drain tube. https://www.yamahagolfcar.com/overview/

Max speed is 19 but golf course lease models may not be programmed for this much. It may go 14 mph

Yes, but isn't dealer able to change that programming, similar to reprogramming my ezgo controller to top speed?

Thanks again

The PTV speed code is a unique number tied to the controller that the dealer has to order from yamaha, you likely cant walk in with a 14mph cart, and walk out @ 19mph in the same day. They will need to know the cart SN & the motor controller SN to get the PTV code ordered.

So it sounds like its doable, but that this is a legitimate upgrade the dealer could charge a reasonable fee for. I'm assuming it would cost the dealer some $$ to get the code from Yamaha.

Yeah, its not free to the dealer, likely cost you around $150~200. Be aware that the PTV code will not change torque at all, only raise the top speed limit. If you are thinking you may ever want to go faster than 19mph (dont try HS gears with stock moric controller, wont last 4 years), or lift/big tires, save your money for a better controller & cables instead.

I would much rather upgrade the controller than pay Yamaha for a speed code. Then the speed is up to you. They are charging you for something that should be free to customers.
