Default G22E Negative battery cable hot - smell

The cart ran great but needed brakes and tires, I recently added new brake shoes and new tires. Yesterday I took it out for a cruise around the neighborhood, traveling anywhere from 10 mph - 20 mph for about 15-20 minutes. When I got back to the house I noticed a smell of something burning, I lifted up the seat and the negative side of the batter pack (from the motor controller assembly) under the drivers side seat was extremely hot and burning off the insulation. Any ideas as to what this could be? Like I mentioned the cart ran great before hand.
thank you,

Possible the new brakes are dragging and creating an extra strain on the system?

Yes, I was thinking about this, because when I let off the accelerator, it does seem to slow down quicker and not just coast.......

Bad connection on that wire. If that wire was the only thing overheating, it's a connection at the end of it that is bad.
