Default Yamaha JW2 Loud Braking

I just bought a 2010 Yamaha YDR (JW2) this past weekend. I got a great deal so I overlooked a noise issue figuring it would be an easy fix.

The problem I have is that there seems to be some noise coming from the rear driver side wheel and the cart is also pretty noisy when braking (either manual braking or when heading downhill). I checked the axle fluid and it was fine. Any suggestions on what I should try next?

The noise could be the spacer between the hub and the transaxle housing. Reach behind wheel and try to spin the spacer with your hand. If it is loose it can make a grinding noise when breaking or coasting. If it is loose tighten the axle nut to (80 ft/lb I believe). That should fix the noise it is pretty common on the YDRE.

pull the hub off & check for damage (thin splines, piles of rusty bits). clean splines, coat with grease or anti-seize, then re-torque to "about 80 foot-pounds". the lock-cap for the cotter-pins is important, it will prevent your wheel from departing & reduce damage when it comes loose again.

Im having the same problem with quite a few carts at the course I work at. We tightened down the axel nuts on one yesterday and I'm pretty sure the noise became worse. They were very loose though. Were going to take the hub off and look at everything today but could there be any other reason for all the rear end noise. Almost half our fleet is making some kind a grinding. The rear ends do have a yellow sticker.
