1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
My cart has an intermittent problem where it just becomes unresponsive. Maybe runs fine for two or three holes and then dead. After a minute or two of fiddling with it (turn key off and on, move F/R back and forth...etc) it will run again for a little longer. Does this over and over and no longer has enough juice to last 18 holes. Had new Trojan batteries and cables put in a few years ago and they still look good and have not been used much. Is there a detailed troubleshooting guide on how to find what might be causing this issue?

Start with testing your batteries. Charge them fully, let them sit, measure each battery voltage with a DVM. Then load test them if the voltages were ok. There are tables here for what the voltages should be for fully charged batteries.

Re: 1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
Voltage test results showed 5 batteries in the 6.44 to 6.52 range and the sixth battery only 4.91. Obviously need to replace that one battery. Will try that and see if I am still having any issues. Any problem replacing one out of the set?

Re: 1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
yeah, replacing one new battery into a used set is a waste of money. throwing the new battery "to the wolves". the used batteries charge & discharge differently than the new "full capacity" one. the new one will be drawn down to the level of the used ones in a couple months. if thats what you gotta do, do it. but the older the rest are, the worse it is for a single new one.

Re: 1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
Got a new set of 6 batteries installed tonight. All of them read 6.3 volts and 38 volts across the pack before charging. Powertron P2000. I read a lot on the subject of powertron vs trojan and the yamaha dealer said the P2000 had the same 18 month warranty as the Trojans so I saved a few bucks. Once I have the cart back in working order I am planning to sell it so I hope the batteries solve my problem.

Re: 1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
Batteries solved my problem. Ran fine yesterday with no signs of any other issues. Didn't know about the battery break in process with the old set, so I will make sure and start this set off right. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1997 G16E Electrical Troubleshooting
Ok batteries didn't completely solve the problem. Still having issues with cart becoming unresponsive even with the new batteries. Same issue I had originally. Sometimes I can hear the solenoid clicking even when I am just sitting in the cart with the key on and not touching the pedals. Does this sound like a solenoid issue or something else?
