Increasing Torque On G29

I'm looking to get some more torque out of my 2011 G 29. It is lifted with a 6" MDJX lift and has brand new exide batteries. The new batteries have helped significantly with my range however I am learning it didn't do much for me on the torque end. This cart is being used for hunting and some of the steeper area's it is really struggling to get up.

My question is what is the safest way to add torque to my cart economically. I don't want to burn out my motor and the top end spend isn't all that important to me however a little faster certainly would be nice. Do i need to get a new controller or is there another route I can go? If a new controller is the best route what would y'all recommend?

I'm no expert as a new g29 owner, but from what I've read a new alltrax controller that is setup for more torque would do the trick. I'll let the real experts tell me if I'm wrong.

You need more current to get more torque. This is hard on the stock motor. You could invest in a higher torque motor from D&D. If you get a higher current controller you may cook your motor. (I did)

Does anyone have any experience with the new controllers on the stock motor's? Be curious if anyone has had issues.

im not so sure about the stock motor with more amps & big tires. the stock motor was not the most robust for HD use, and the stock controller is too weak for most anything other than golf.

My experience with stock motor and upgraded controller was very bad. Motor overheated badly.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking of getting the Alltrac XCT-300. I drive on flat land 99% of the time. So, top end is what I'm looking for the most. I'm interested to hear if this would cook my stock motor.

I'm no expert but it seems the many years of G29 have come equipped with different OE motor configurations. In my case I had to provide specific mfg and model info directly off my motor to Altrax in order to calibrate the XCT-500 to the stock motor maximums. It's possible some of the OE motors are more robust than other years. I'm currently running at 500amp with 6k RPM rev limiter.

I can say the Altrax has significantly changed the overall torque and speed of the cart on the stock motor. The cart is obviously faster as the maximum amperage is increased as well as the RPM. On 22" tires I get 28mph on flat ground. But as others have said, you can't really change the maximum torque capabilities of your existing motor without replacing it with something designed for more torque. Now that said, the Altrax does allow you to change the throttle curve and deliver more torque earlier in the throttle range. This gives the impression of having more torque down low by making the power "come on" quicker.

I've played with the throttle curves a lot, to the point where it will chirp the tires from the amount of power dumped from the controller, but as others have cautioned you can only go so far on a stock motor - and frankly better be prepared to replace it when it dies because it will eventually.

A note on RPM limit: I don't think I've ever hit the configured 6k limit. According to the Altrax documentation, the rev limiter is enabled by signaling the regen braking when the RPM sensor exceeds the configured maximum. I have never felt this kick in and I've tested it on high-speed down hills. I believe the cart simply runs out of overall power to overcome the weight, tire-size, drag, etc. before the motor sees 6k rpm, even on a downhill grade.
