Voltage question
Helping a friend work on his ydre while I wait for parts for mine. What voltage should it read at the ignition switch? Batteries are new, he fully charged it last week and hasn't run it. Volt meter is reading 19. I'm assuming it should be 48? What are the odds of a new off the shelf battery being bad?

Re: Voltage question
"A" bad battery, something's amiss here. one battery should not cause 19v at rest. we need more info. and is the "tow/run" switch on "run" during this reading? does his cart have factory lights? any lights? cart have a 2-position key switch (off-on), or 3-position switch (off-on-lights on)? Yamaha is not very forthcoming with their wiring diagrams for cars with light kits, they say light kits are "parts & accessories", so not included in the service manual.

Re: Voltage question
Two position switch. No lights. Voltage reading taken key on tow/run on run. The only thing aftermarket on the cart is the volt meter with a digital display.

Re: Voltage question
ok, which voltmeter reading are you looking at? a handheld DVM test tool, or a meter to install in the cart?

Re: Voltage question
Meyer installed on the cart. Readings are consistent with that of the power probe.

Re: Voltage question
A friend brought a Yami to me that never did run well after new batteries. I found the installer put the main battery cable on the wrong terminal.

Re: Voltage question
Sorry, life happened and I hadn't had a chance to get back to this. Cart runs perfectly fine. When fully charged the volt meter installed on the cart reads 43v. Shouldn't that be 48v? If so, does that mean one of the new batteries is bad?

Re: Voltage question
A 48 volt cart is not going to run "perfectly fine" on 43 volts... If you suspect that you have a bad battery then take readings with a voltage meter on each battery one at a time. Takes all of 2 minutes and no cables need be disturbed...

Re: Voltage question
by perfectly fine I mean with a midgrade alltrax controller and redbird motor (I think it was called redbird) it will run 25 mph on flat ground and its very snappy when you hit the throttle. The battery life just seems a little short.
