Default G29 XCT 48500 YDRE wiring & programming questions

2010 Yamaha G29 Drive, 56v lithium pack, DCX500, and D&D ES-63-49 motor. I have two questions concerning a controller swap.

Question 1
I am waiting for a XCT 48500 YDRE controller to replace the DCX500. The XCT controller has a wiring note:

"THIS VEHICLE IS A HIGH SIDE DRIVE. OBSERVE POLARITY OF B+ AND B-"
http://www.alltraxinc.com/files/DOC1...E-WIRE-DIA.pdf

The DCX diagram has B+ and B- backwards from the XCT wire diagram.

I do not have the stock yamaha motor, do I need to rewire B+ and B- to match the XCT diagram? I can, just checking.

Question 2

Does anyone have basic programming settings for a G29 YDRE? There are a lot of settings in the XCT compared to the DCX. One is motor rpm, which i do not know. I will have to call D&D for the spec on this ES-63-49 at 56v.

What does Alltrax mean when they state "This Vehicle Is High Side Drive"? See red circled text on the YDRE wire diagram. No other XCT diagram has this note. B- and B+ are reversed on the G29 YDRE diagram.

There is nothing stock left in the G29 I am upgrading. Maybe they should instead say "This Controller Is High Side Drive"?

Most all golf carts have a cable from the controller B+ terminal to to the motor and another from the M- to the motor. The controller chops the motors access to the pack B- to control the motor speed & power based on throttle input. All Yamahas equipped witt Moric controllers were originally a little different. The B- terminal on the controller is shared with the motor, and the access to B+ is chopped to control the motor (hence the term "high side drive"). You could either change the motor A1 back to the controller B+ terminal, or go into the XCT software & turn off "High side drive". The reason it's like this in the instructions is because the original yamaha main B- battery cable & the cable from controller B- to motor A1 is one piece deal, and alltrax has to consider stock cables for the 300a controller applications & people who refuse to upgrade their cables. Since you have a Dcx on there now, you have already converted the wiring to "low side drive".

Dead on and well explained.

Great explanation.

Yup, I was low side drive. For the sake of less changes required (in programming), I swapped the wires back to high side drive. It actually made wire connections easier.

The XCT will come programmed for a stock motor. What programming changes will I need to make? Will the XCT field map work with my D&D motor? The XCT software manual makes the following statement.

The Field Maps used for the new XCT are significantly different than the ones used for the DCX line of controllers.
The DCX controllers use a .HEX while the XCT controllers use a .txt file. Do not attempt to load .HEX files into an XCT controller.

Do not use the stock map for your D&D map, motor damage will occur.
The dealer who sold the XCT should have programmed it for your motor.
Which D&D motor do you have?

The dealer did ask what motor and it is listed on invoice as D&D?

I am assuming the ? is there due to it being a custom motor. I have ES-63-49 in this cart.

You should contact D&D and get a map and an email stating the map is specifically for this application. They will not warranty the motor if you melt it using an incorrect field map.

I see 37 maps listed in my distributor software, non of them match this motor
