Default I Plasti Dipped my G29 this weekend

After reading thread after thread and watching video after video I decided to Plasti Dip my G29. I probably could've painted it with as much prepping as I did but I wasnt confident in my skills. I'll probably paint the roof. Anyway, here is what I decided on.

I bought a Earlex Spay Station 3500 HLVP, which is what a lot of the "Dippers" use. Its not too pricey at $139 and I figured I could use it on other DIY jobs.

I already had a bottle of the Pre-Dip spray from a past job. I bought 1-Gallon of the "Plum Crazy" from the Classic Muscle line which has a slight metallic sheen to it. I also got 1-bottle of the Dip Coat Protective Spray which hardens and smooths the dip.

I removed the rear of my cart, which was already off for a lift kit/HD spring install, and thoroughly washed it with a roughing pad and Dawn Soap and then again with Simply Green. After it was dry I took some sand paper and smoothed out any chips and imperfections and then lightly sanded the rest of the body then hosed off and let dry...This was probably over kill but I did it anyway.

Next I loaded up the sprayer and set the gun to one of the lower settings and started spraying. I sprayed 6 light coats and waited 10-minutes in between each coat. At first I was super pleased with the results then I noticed a lot of texture and rough patches, which were from me using the wrong spray pattern on the first few coats, over spray, and holding the gun too far back. I took some 800 & 1200 grit sand paper and wet sanded all of the texture out and cleaned up with a microfiber towel. Next I did a few more light coats just to clean up any little scratches I might have made while sanding.

FYI, I havent applied the protective spray yet. Its suppose to really bring out the color.

Here are some pics of the process/progress. As you can see the first few coats look tiger stripped b/c I was shooting a horizontal pattern instead of vertical but I figured it out eventually.

Except for being too thin, the marbled effect would have looked good too.

I'm not a fan at all of plastidip (seen/removed too many botched jobs), but that looks real good. Should be even better with the top coat. That color will be great to not look like every other golf cart. NICE!

I thought the same thing. Marbled effect looks good, then I read the post. It turned out nice.

Thanks guys! I sprayed the front end yesterday without removing if from the cart but I did remove, headlights, windshield, and dash. I did the same prep work and spray process as the rear but this time I made a critical mistake. I left the yamaha emblem on the cart.....which I thought wouldnt be a big deal since I've worked with PD in the past and had no issues removing it from emblems. This time when I tried to remove the dip from the emblem it ripped an ugly little circle around it. I think some water got trapped behind the emblem causing it not to adhere properly. So I removed the emblem (by breaking it by accident) and re-shot some dip. It still didn't look right so I got some paint thinner and tried to smooth out the edges for another re-shoot but I still didnt like the way it looked so I ripped it all off I guess I'll be re-spraying this week

Thanks! I decided to go home a re-spray during lunch. And all is well again.
