Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
I plan on converting to the Alltrax XCT 48400 controller in my 2009 G29. There is a lot of talk about the conversion. I will also converting to the 6-8volt batteries. Keeping the stock motor, Hitachi I believe.
The question I have is going to the 400A controller, is it required, or suggested to upgrade the Solenoid? Thanks Kevin |

Re: Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
Yamaha has a pretty large solenoid for the 2007-2012 carts and with stock Hitachi motor you should be fine with the XCT400.

The min requirement for the XCT48400YDRE solenoid is 200a continuous.

Re: Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
Is the stock one rated at 200A continuous? don't know
Is it just better to upgrade both at the same time? Figure if I'm replacing batteries, wires, controller, why not the solenoid, right? |

cg thanks.
Think I will stay with the stock one, especially since I will dial down the controller. |

Stock solenoid is 8 yrs old. Do you update the whole system and leave the old solenoid? I don't

Re: Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
Plowman's does not recommend the XCT with the stock Hitachi motor. He said they will fail eventually. He's done substantial testing on these with Alltrax

Re: Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
I guess I agree with you Scotty.
At what point does the stock motor fail? It seems like a lot of people have added the Alltrax with the stock motor. Haven't heard a lot of complaints about the motor failing. I believe it fails due to the higher amperage. That is why it needs to be turned down, I thought. I'm no expert by any means |

Re: Alltrax XCT conversion in G29
Get the Alltrax controller, replace the solenoid. Solenoid contact surfaces due wear out. Run it until the motor dies, replace the motor. OR
Get the bigger XCT500 Alltrax controller, dial it down, replace the solenoid. Then you can replace the motor with any motor out there. It will run cooler dialed down, and the 500 comes with a fan built in. There might be a time later down the road you may want the extra Amps for a speed or torque motor. My .02 cents. |
