2008 YDRE make it faster?
So I bought this 2008 Yamaha YDRE when it was new.
I am tired of the stock look and speed, so I want to put some new tires and wheels on it and make it faster as well. I replaced the batteries last fall. How large of low pro tires can I go without a lift kit and what kind of motor/controller package can I get ? I'd like it to get 20 mph or faster. It's mainly used on golf courses, but we are allowed to drive it around our suburb. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: 2008 YDRE make it faster?
I have a 2010 ydre. I haven't done tires/wheels, but I bought an XCT400 controller from Scotty B at Carts Unlimited (site sponsor). Apparently that alone will put you over 20mph, but I also upgraded my high speed motor from Electrical Motor Products, and did all cables at 4 gauge. Chuck at EMP wanted specifics of my cart (lifted? Backseat? Hills?) and built the motor to suit me. Total I'm in about $1300 and I'm at about 27mph (flat asphalt) on a battery pack that needs replacing. Curious about how big of a wheel/tire set will fit since that will also improve speed. Regardless, hit up Scotty B and he can dial you in with a motor/controller. Hope that helps a bit.

Unsoshl: Stock Yamaha can take 21" tires. Drumdog, go with Scotty's recommendation for the XCT, but get an Admiral MOT-D2 from him as well, though he may reccommend a different motor. Your stock motor will not last long with the power upgrade and larger tires.

That's FUNNY - Put your hands in the air, step away from the batteries.

Where I am, speed is a big thing. Golf course and traveling around town is the biggest use here also.
Here, we swap the motor with a good motor and 23-24 MPH and your good to go. No need to change amything else |

Golf Cart Guy: Sounds like you are in the Villages. Which motor would you install to replace the stock Hitachi? And are you getting this 23-24 using the stock controller with PVT speed code?

The EMP modified motor for the Yamaha is great. Pretty much everyone uses that and it works very well. Yes there are other motors that will work, but I find they pull more amps which you really don't want here. |
