2004 G22E is a little TOO slow...

Hello all.

New to not only this forum, but also new to carting as well. I recently bought a stock 2004 Yamaha G22E. I absolutely LOVE this cart, and my family and I ride all the time now. Now...while I am loving the "LowNSlow" lifestyle (or the idea of it anyway) of a stock electric cart...carting around in this town (which only recently became legal here) on the streets is proving to be a bit dangerous around here and I'd really like to at least have the OPTION of stomping it if needed, to stay out of danger...or bragging rights on the rare occasions some teenager tries to overtake me in the neighborhood. ;)

I read in a couple of threads the "Alltrax DCX400" name thrown around, but I am a complete newbie and have no idea what this is...or what my best options are for speeding this little town cruiser up, nor how to do them. Are there other things I should get instead? How difficult is this upgrade? I do know it has a GE motor, and (6) "Rural King" 8V's (new this spring)...and some small box that the previous owner said was for my headlights. Other than that, I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated....thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post. Great to be here!

Ok, your on the right track. The DCX is no longer produced, but no worries, it's replacement is much better in every way. Your route to speed is a new motor controller, this controller will unlock speeds of 24 mph with stock wheels & motor. If you want to go the cheaper route, I suggest getting a Alltrax XCT48400 controller, dial it back to 300a and just doing that for now. When you want more, and you Will get the bug, install all new 4g cables (a good suggestion anyway), a new HD solenoid (your original one is a very good one, but is "high mileage" these days, 13 years old), crank that controller back up to 400a, and start saving some dough to replace that old motor.

I have the same cart. Last winter, I replaced it with an Alltrax XCT 48300 controller. It really takes off and quick. I went from 12MPH to the Low 20's. All the speed I need. I purchased it from Plowman Carts for $399.00. Don programed it. Very easy to install, easy directions, took under 30 minutes.

I couldn't be happier.

Thank you both, I appreciate your input! I will place the Alltrax at the top of the purchase list...and just might order it this week, providing I can sufficiently distract the wife. I'll just need something shiny...

As for the programming and/or dialing...is this something I can do myself, or should I have it done by someone experienced?

Since your car has a GE controller, you could just change the motor to a hi speed one. As long as your not climbing hill's, they work very well.

I'm not opposed to a new motor, and I'm sure eventually I will attempt to upgrade EVERYTHING, (because I'm that guy can never leave sh*t alone...lol) but I will have to do everything in stages for $ reasons. A motor will likely be the last on the list as I'm sure they are probably pricey, correct?

We do have a few steep hills, but mostly flat streets. And if it's ok to dream...I would love to be able to drive my cart downtown and back some day, which involves one VERY steep climb called "Hatcher Hill" that goes from downtown Madison to the hilltop (where I live). From what I'm told, only the gassers attempt that one...

Yes, I got it from Plowmans and I am very happy. Just talk to Don Plowman, and give him your requirements and he will recommend what is best for you. I got the Alltrax XCT 48300 $399.00 which is all I wanted. More than enough speed. I went from the slowest cart to one of the fastest with no issues.

It was very easy to install and I'm not that mechanical.

I am in the middle of an ongoing 2005 G22E project myself ... Stock cart ran out at about 12mph on staggered 12/14" rims and tires (I had to modify the frame to fit 'em but they're on, LOL), so I installed an Alltrax XCT48400, Solenoid, 2g wires, and did a little tweaking, ended up at just under 22mph on the flats and a TON of snap at takeoff (like can't keep the 205/30-14's from breaking loose unless I'm careful) - Night and DAY difference. HOWEVER ...

Being "That Guy" myself hahaha, I currently have Chuck at EMP building me a custom motor with Triple-Banding, Internal Thermostat, 3X HD Brushes, Custom winding, etc - it's not a "cheap" upgrade, but with the correct Map and Programming we have targeted 38mph with stock gears - I just got done painting the body so once the motor comes in the whole thing should come together nicely.

BTW, if You set the controller down to 300A your stock solenoid *should* be good, but as mentioned above for the extra $100 or so it's probably best to just bite the bullet and replace it when You do 4g or 2g wires.
