buying 1996 cart

Going to look at a 1996 48v cart this afternoon. I am a long time EZ-GO owner and not very familiar with the Yamaha's. Reading through some old messages, trying to educate myself. I was hoping to get some info on what I might be looking for as I evaluate this golf cart? Looks like 1996 had G14, G16, and G-19? Any good things or problems to look for? Whats the reputation for this year? Speed, durability, parts, easy to work on? Thanks

G14E & G16E were 36v series systems. G19E was a 48v sepex system. If the forward & reverse switch is on the dashboard, it's a G19E. It will do about 13mph stock, if it goes faster it's not stock. A stock G19E will go 24mph with a controller upgrade. If you want to build a street cart, the G19E is the better option. For a offroad buggy, the G14/16 could be better, but will require more $ to get ready (new controller, F&R, solenoid, cables, and preferably 48v upgrade).

Just got back from looking at the golf cart. It is a G19E. Has an upgraded motor. Has the original motor to. It was doing about 17 mph on my phone gps. Its a 4 seater with long top. So I bought it and will pick it up tomorrow. I will post some pics if anyone is interested in seeing it. Thanks for the background info.

Thats just about perfect. It has a upgraded motor, but the speed indicates it doesn't have high speed gears, a perfect combo for a upgrade controller and some good speed & power boosts.

Anyone familiar with this motor? What is the connector that is not connected to anything?

Looks like a speed sensor. Since it's not connected this would imply the controller has been changed also. But I speak from general cart knowledge as I'm not familiar with Yammies specifically.

cgtech is a Yamaha expert. He will be able to tell you in great detail what you have and what to do about it if you want to upgrade performance. It's a sepex cart so speed and torque upgrades are relatively inexpensive.
