Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
I have a Yamaha G8E with a high speed D&D motor that makes a loud scraping/buzzing sound when I get past about 15mph. If I let off on the accelerator, the cart will roll quietly, also, when the cart gets up to speed (about 24 MPH) the noise goes away, if I keep driving.
My tires aren’t rubbing and the brakes are fine. Anyone seen this before? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
I would change out the rear end oil, into a clean container (a cut off milk jug would work good), then strain the oil for debris/metal. Did the noise exist before motor change?

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
I don’t know, because the motor I replaced was shot so I couldn’t try it.

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
Some regular gear oil, like 75-90 would be fine.

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
I changed the rear end fluid and filled it to the proper amount, and the loud noise is still the same. Only while I’m accelerating, but not while coasting.

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
Several things come to mind. Since you have a new motor, I would not think it is the armature coupler, but could be the input shaft, did you check the splines on the input shaft before the new motor install? Did you have to "pull" the motor to "flush" mount it with the bolts? Some times it gets bound up that way. Or worn gears or bearings. Good luck

My input shaft is in fine shape. I don’t know where this noise could be coming from? It is quite loud.

Re: Yamaha G8 rear end noise?
Here's a video- any ideas? It's terribly annoying.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLAd0svG4oE Also, it does not happen when coasting and it DOES happen up on the jack stands. |
