Default New batteries/charging question

Just put new batteries in my 2005 g22. Showed about 49v. Hooked up the charger. Checked a couple hours later...batteries boiling..charger still running at 61v. Disconnected charger and battery pack settles to 51.1.

Does this sound right? Or is my charger messed up. Didn’t have this issue before changing batteries.

BTW..charger is Yamaha..I thing 17v

Thanks in advance

Did you let it charge to completion? It can take up to 16 hours to completely charge.

48V pack can charge into the 67-68V range before settling back down to the high 50s before completion.

I did not. Never seen it charge that high before. Usually the max charge voltage Ive seen has been 53..54v.

So charging into the 60s is ok.?

What make and model are your new batteries? Look up the charge requirement for them online to understand what is actually required.

I have observed my Lester Summit 48 volt charger shuts off at about 62.3 volts.

My US Batteries recommend that the finish charge take the batteries up to 2.55 +/- 0.05 volts per cell ... for a 6 volt battery that is 7.65 volts +/- 0.15 volts and 61.2 volts +/- 1.2 volts for the 48 volt pack.

For an 8 volt US Battery it is 10.2 +/-0.2 volts or 61.2 volts +/- 1.2 volts for the 48 volt pack.

Your batteries may have similar (or perhaps somewhat different) charging requirements.

NCPW - I think that 67 - 68 volts for a 48 volt pack might be excessive ... what make of batteries / charger require this charge voltage?

DPI Gen3 set to mode 4 for my 8V US Batteries when I first got them. Now they charge up to 62-63V and float at 57.8V. Settle down to 53.6V after 24hrs.

Batteries are now a little over 2 years old.
