Recently bought a g19 project cart

Hey yall, new to the forum and golf carts. Recently bought a 98 yamaha g19 48 volt cart that didn't run due to being flooded during hurricane florence. The first thing I did was replace the corroded battery cables and wires and clean all the battery terminals. The first time I turned the cart on flames shot out the side of the controller so I'm thinking the controller is toast. I tested the motor it seems ok. The motor is not stock according to the previous owner, he said it's a high speed motor . The motor is an

The first question is is this in fact a high speed motor? And secondly what controller would be best to get. From the reading I've been doing on here it seems alltrax is the best but 300, 400, 500 ?

You do have a motor that is nicer than the stock motor, but is the current motor a piece of garbage? What does the inside look like inside? Floods are real bad for things that use electricity, as I'm sure you know.

To cgtech's point, anything that may have been submerged, I would disassemble and inspect closely. There was a thread not too long ago from someone rebuilding a flooded cart. They showed a picture of the motor and it was full of all kinds of junk. It ran before they took it apart. As for which controller to get. That really depends on what you will be using the cart for, and/or what capabilities you want to have...

Ok I guess I will pull the motor out and take it apart. The golf cart will be used on the street driving around town etc.

Ok I pulled the motor this afternoon and took it apart it's about the same as what's in the pictures you linked to. I'm guessing it's not worth trying to clean up? If that's the case what motor and controller should I be looking for?

The driving I will be doing is all pretty flat, paved, will have a back seat so the wife and kids can ride. My one friends cart tops out at 14 mph which is too slow for bugging around town my other buddy has one that goes 23 mph that's more where I'd like to be thanks for the help

Controller- Alltrax XCT-48400-G19
Motor- FSIP 48-SPEEDEY

This would get you right around 25mph on stock tires, with significantly more torque than stock.

I believe both are available from ScottyB at WWW.CARTSUNLIMITED.NET , at the lowest prices you are gonna find anywhere. I would suggest getting the whole package with cables and solenoid, that will make your life easier.
