Default G19 rear end scraping metallic sound

After sitting all winter in the garage we took the cart for a spin. There is a fairly loud scraping or grinding noise that sounds metallic. Cart seems a little slow too but not to the point where a brake would be stuck.

Any ideas where to look? I'll be digging into this on the weekend.

No dent. Pulled the plug off and found this though. Any tips on changing this fluid? And why would there be such a drastic change between driving it in October and driving it now?

Looks like water has been in there! Not good. Pull the pan.

Is there a breather tube on these? Where is the water likely coming in from? There is a creek crossing on a paved road that we go through frequently. Depth is between 2 and 6".

Or is it condensation building up over time?

I have no problem changing the oil yearly just would like to prevent future damage

There is a plastic vent on top of the axle tube, and it could be extended up pretty easily, the little plastic cap just pops off. Then add a hose with another one of those vents at the top.

Alright so it's not the gear oil that was causing the issue. I cleaned that out real well and changed it and it's still making a lot of noise. I am guessing something in by the brake drum. Pushing the brake pedal has no effect on the noise. The noise Is always there but it's pitch and volume change with speed

Ok, pull axle shafts to check wheel bearings. It's actually quite easy. Wheel off, nut in middle off (15/16"), snap ring behind hub, boom done.... You might need to temporarily loosely put hub back on to use as a pull handle if axle is stubborn.
