Default Brakes!!!

First of all, I totally plan on donating $ to the forum as y’all are so wise and helpful. I’m having big problems with my Yamaha G14 brakes. I hit the brake pedal and the darn thing doesn’t stop and so I use the emergency brake. That’s not good. I mean, it will stop at low speeds after hitting the pedal to the floor....but not consistently.

I got the thing on cinder blocks and am looking at brake shoes. So many questions:

1) best products to clean the brake shoes?

2) I’ve watched a bunch of videos that talk about adjusting brakes by finding a rubber cap and then turning the screw one rotation. Awesome, except my G14 doesn’t have a rubber cap or thing to turn. Help... please...

Any other advice so appreciated and welcome.

Know that I’m not a mechanic. Mom of two and psychotherapist...if you’re wondering why I’m so clueless. I just love my cart and want it road ready.

Hi,
Donation or not, someone here knows just what to do for those brakes. There’s a lot of us here that are parents/grandparents, so kiddos rank pretty high - maybe higher’n dogs! Don’t ask my wife that part.
Best wishes,

Can you post a few pictures from different angles? If someone who is familiar with your brand cart doesn't answer, pictures would make it possible for those who are not familiar with your brand cart to help. All brakes are essentially the same, with just a few different ways of doing it. If that makes sense...

G14's could have had a Yamaha transaxle or a Dana. I will say if there aftermarket brake shoes, even if adjusted correctly...they will not stop the car well. Pictures are nice.

This should be the rubber cap on your drum brakes. If you "peel" it back, you should see a kind of gear. Using a screw driver, you can adjust it, to push the shoes out. It normally does not take a lot of adjustment to correct the issue.

However, you may want to check this first. At the top, on the backside of the drum. Some have what looks like a top from a baby bottle, only black rubber. If you have that, pull it off. There would be a screw or bolt head. Turning that adjusts the shoes in or out.

I can tell by the hub design that you have the Dana axle. Would use the same shoes as any G19 or G22. The lever sticking out will be your adjustment point. Put vice grips on it, and "rachet it" untill the adjusters don't do any more (with brake drums on). Then readjust the brake pedal as needed to get cables reconnected. Adjust pedal to 1 3/4" free play.

So to my other poster, that rubber part does not seem to peel back at all. I truly tried.

I have spent a long time trying to decode where the lever is and the part I’m supposed to ratchet. I’m so sorry but any way you can explain it more, or maybe help out with pictures? Or anyone else who has a sense? I’m so appreciative of the help.

The "lever" cgtech is referring to, is the part that the brake cable attaches to. If I get time today, I will take some pictures with my brakes, showing how this is done.
