Got a good motor without a speed sensor. will it work?

No, a YDRE will need a speed sensor to run properly.

If it has no provisions for a speed sensor, it's probably a series motor (series motors are NOT compatible with Yamaha sepex system). The only SepEx motor without a speed sensor i can think of that would bolt on to a Yamaha is a ezgo DCS 36v motor, would not be a good match anyway.
