Default Gears, Speed, Insanity?

I have my motor off and was curious to see what gears I have in my 92 G8E. I counted one full rotation of the back tire and six full rotations of the input shaft. This got me thinking, worried, confused as I am building a torque centric cart. I was under the impression that these carts mostly came with 12:1 gears. So I calculated that at 36v (old pack) running a 48v motor rated at 3150 rpm I should be turning 2362.5 rpm. I have 22” tires and if my 6:1 is correct then my top speed should have been 25.8 mph. My top speed was well under that at about 12 or 13 on flat ground (tires full, no excess drag from brakes verified). If I change the gear ratio in the calculator to 12:1 then I get almost exactly that, 12.9 mph.

Now lets assume I counted correctly and I do have 6:1 gears on 22” tires. I would have to only be running 1180 rpm to max out at 12.9 mph. To have a max rpm of 1180 on that particular motor, math tells me I was only running on about 17.5 volts instead of 36.

I’m really hoping someone is going to tell me I counted wrong and there’s no way I have 6:1 gears.

If both back tires were not turning when you counted revolutions, your differential gears cut the ratio in half.
