Default Trouble shooting cart / solenoid

First post, first cart... Yamaha G8, I cant figure out the problem.

So far I have tested and found:

1. Continuity when I hit gas pedal Between big post (reading is 0). However, there is Already 36 volts (opposite post of positive)before I hit the gas pedal to create continuity. it then goes above 38v.
2. only slightly above one volt at motor. (Hooked 12volts to motor and it rotates)
3. Continuity test on Small terminals .187

Can some one please make sense of this?

Thanks

Craig

You shouldn’t get continuity on the small solenoid terminals when you press the pedal. You should get 36V across them. Test for that.

With power to the cart I get 36.6 volts on the small terminals when I hit the gas pedal.

I just tested diodes, r/y had continuity one direction and not the other. R/w had continuity both directions. My understanding is that they both should only be one direction. How does this effect the cart?
Thanks

Ok, let's start with electronics 101.5. Ok, it passes Ohm test sure. When it's all powered up, does it actually carry that current/voltage required when under load in "real life" use? If I had only a dollar for every switching device that I have found to "look perfect" on a continuity test and promptly fail the real world "does it actually work" test. People put too much faith in a continuity test alone (same thing happens with volts in a circuit that is not delivering any power to a "load"). Many failed devices can deliver "full volts" to the wire when the load at the end of the wire is not connected. (And wont do squat when the load is connected).

The power is not getting to the motor. I tested voltage at terminal end of wire, unattached to motor. It was just over a 1.5 volts

Any thoughts?

Do you hear the solenoid "click" when key is on/ in forward or reverse and pedal is pushed ?

What is the voltage reading on the solenoid "large" post that goes to the forward/reverse switch when the solenoid is activated?

When I flip the switch, the post to controller, reads 38.5 When I activated solenoid by depressing the accelerator, voltage reads 38.1

So if voltage goes straight through, shouldn’t the cart get power to move? What happens if solenoid isn’t stopping voltage?

Thanks

Since you tested the motor separately, and the solenoid is activating, I would suspect the forward/reverse switch or the cables from the f/r switch to the motor. Might check the voltages at the f/r switch output terminals. You from Lake Tapps WA?
