Default Yamaha Charger Wiring Diagram

I am new to this forum so sorry if this is a repeat question. I recently bought a used Yamaha G22 with a MAC-SCR48-17-17 charger. The charger does not work. My boss is an electronics wiz and we were going to do some testing on it to see if it is fixable before I shell out $$$ for a new one. I have found places on the web to buy internal parts for the charger but I have been unable to find a wiring diagram to assist us in our tests. Does anyone have or know where to get one?

What makes you think the charger does not work? Just so you are aware.....the charger has to sense a certain amount of voltage from the batteries before it will come on. Since its a 48 volt charger I would say it needs to see around 40 or so volts before it will come on. So if your batteries are below that level the charger won't do jack. Different models will require different voltages.

The MAC diagram......never seen, nor heard of one on the net. You might try their website.

I have yet to verify it for myself. The batteries are totally dead. The person I bought it from (who I know) had his wife take it to a local reputable cart shop (I can't remember the name) and they tested it and told her it was not working. I got no other information from him on if they said it was fixable or not, and I have yet to take it there myself. I am just trying to see if I can repair it myself before I spend money on taking it to them or buying a new one. I have a parts place online that I found where several of the parts are less than $50 and thought it would be worth a try before I spend around $300 for a used one or double that on a new one.

Well...if it were me...I would charge the batts individually and try the charger again. Your going to have to do it anyways or the charger will never work. I'm not saying the cart shop doesn't know what they are doing but we hear horror stories around here all the time. (and many others will agree) Just yesterday a local "reputable" cart shop wanted to charge this guy whom I just met over $200 to get him going....that part cost $2. No labor, just the part. Fortunately I have several of the parts here at home and GAVE him one.

I hooked it up to fully charged identical cart that a friend has today. It went through all the typical motions of all the lights flashing, the incomplete light came on, it clicked then it never started buzzing nor did the charging light come on (like it was not kicking on the transformer). My charger did all of the same things their charger did except the buzzing after the click and the charge light coming on. So I am thinking one of the relays/resitors. Hopefully the boss will remember his meters and such tomorrow and we can give it a good look over while it is hooked to that cart. Unless anyone here might know what to look at/for first.

ScottF, You, trying it another cart was a good idea. Did you try your freinds "good" charger on your cart? Please heed Roady's advice. Yamaha 48 volt carts with the "MAC" charger must have at least 44 volts to activate the DC circuit. IE: when you plugged your charger into a fully charged battery set, the dc portion of the charger "senced" it was hooked up to a cart (thus-the series of lights you saw). This leads me to beleive your charger has a AC problem. Could be the ac cord itself, the circuit breaker or the relay. Fully automatic chargers are wonderfull when they work. In my opinion, the Mac "SCR" charger is one of the most complicated to work on and really should be done by an experianced/honest person. Good luck...Start force charging your batteries....Dave

I located this manual which is for the SCR line of MAC chargers. It has wiring diagrams, troubleshooting etc.

Thanks roady. I ended up finding that same manual last night. The only problem we have with it is that we can't read the darn thing (wiring diagram that is) after printing, or even on the computer when zooming in. We will give it a try. I will let everyone know how it turns out. Thank you all.

I was not getting power through the relay. Replaced it and everything works fine. Bought the relay from the same cart shop that told the person I bought it from that the charger was bad. Part $11. So beware just walking in off the street to a cart shop when having things tested. I also found out you can direct connect the two bigger wires on the relay (large blue and large black) together to bypass the voltage required to start the charger, that is if your cart is totally dead and the charger needs a certain amount of voltage to turn on. Keep in mind this bypasses all the censors making it full time on. So only do this long enough to get around 44 volts in the batteries then hook everything back up as normal.
