Unhappy Yamaha G2 Electric Hot Smell

I have a Yamaha G2 Electric that suddenly began getting a hot electrical smell. I looked for burning wires and found none and finally found the source of the heat coming from the large coil between the batteries. Before the hot smell it was acting like it was missing out.

Would appreciate help in solving this problem.

The only suggestion I can give..drive it "pedal to the metal"! The copper contact (accelerator board assy) always uses the 36 volts from the battery set. To create speeds, the voltage is "disapated" thru the resistor coil. When you go slow, the coil can get real hot. I have seen a bad "accelerator" stop switch or a "stuck" solenoid let current flow continuasly. Check the accelerator "moving contact" for wear and replace if needed. Good luck Dave

Thanks Dave.

After further digging the accelerator moving plate is arcing against the plates to move the cart. I lightly sanded them down but still arcing. I am assuming this is what you are referring to. The moving plate is worn. Can you replace just the moving plate and if so where might a guy find one?

Try one of the site sponsors, or your local Yamaha golf cart dealer.
