Default 2005 Yamaha G22E speed sucks, need 24mph+

I just bought this 2005 Yamaha G22E and it only goes about 15mph. I've driven others that reach 21-23mph.

Will reprogramming the regen or disconnecting it give me much in mph?

Or should I just plan on buying a new high speed motor? I use it on relatively flat terrain/course. If so, what brand/size would work with the stock controller best. I want to keep the costs down as much as possible but of course get he max speed. Ideally 25mph.

Or is gearing a more simple option?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome Court! If your G22 is at 15mph, the regen is already at it's max setting. You could "unplug" the wireharness coupler , I cant tell you how fast it would go, but it wouldn't be 25mph and you would loose "anti run away" feature also. We use to buy "HiTourque" motor's (now owned by Nivel) and could get 23mph. The problem is G22 controllers are very low amp rated. I have found you must be on flat ground or damage to the controller or motor could happen. As for high speed gears, you will lose considerable torque. These are my opinions and findings as i've tried them, by no means am I trying to speak for the more knowledgable "sparky" members on this site. If you could settle for 23mph, the motor exchange maybe your next move. Good luck Dave

thanks. I unplugged the regen and got 1 mph. Upon GPS the actual speed it was worse than suspected. 13mph, 14mph after the regen unplug.

I might be forced to sell and find a cart that already is set up for 23mph+. Likely cheaper than buying a motor and controller. If only that controller could push a high speed motor I could get out of this for under $700 (motor only).

You're not going to find a 23+ mph cart for $700.00...

Court, check the site sponsors taht can order from Nivel, try mike or a sponsor close to you. They can order the (I can get the part # tommarow). You will not be disapointed in 23 mph And as long as your on flat ground, you should be fine with the stock controller. Later Dave
