Question on charging 3 12v batts
My G1 had bad batteries and I ain't gonna put 5-600 buks worth of new ones in. I have 3 good deep cycle 12v semi batteries and put them in. It works great but I'm wondering about charging. I don't want to over charge so I figure I'll have to use way less time on the charger but I'd like some recommendations at to time.
I have a 36v Lester Matic Mod 8714 charger, the batts are Interstate Workaholic CCA-660 CA-825. Thanks JohnF |

John. You will be fine. Your charger only will see the total voltage & not how many batteries it is hook to.

Re: Question on charging 3 12v batts
I have no data on the charger so I don't know if I put it on a 12 hr charge that it won't boil out all the water in the lower capacity 12v batts. Does the charger sense the charge level and adjust itself accordingly or do I risk over-charging these? I can find no data on this particular charger.

The Lester is automatic, the timer is just a safety device in case the system gets confused and doesn't shut itself off.

Great...thanks for the info.
I just use the cart around the property in the desert so the 12v's will be fine...for now anyway. I'm watching Phoenix Craigslist for a gas cart. JohnF |

Re: Question on charging 3 12v batts
Just posting a follow-up.
I took the cart with the 3 12v's installed to the dez over last weekend...it was great. It lasts quite a bit longer than with the old, nasty, 6v's. It seems to like about 4-1/2 to 5 hr charge after drawing the batts down to "barely move" level. I didn't get anywhere's near the time out the the 12v that I would get out of a new batch of 6v's but the 12v's didn't cost me a penny. JohnF |

Re: Question on charging 3 12v batts
Those 12v cranking amp batteries are not designed to be drawn down like that. They will die prematurely. In their intended application they are immediately recharged after each discharge.... by the way no golf cart battery will perform well being drawn down to the barely move level either, you will be disappointed in your battery performance until you learn how they were designed to perform
