Yamaha G2 won't move after new batteries.
First of all let me say hi to everyone here, seems to be a knowledgeble place, and hopefully I'll get help to solve my issue.
So I have a 1990 Yamaha 36V (as far as I can tell from pics. it's a G2) I recently bought this cart and it came with Trojan batteries. They were old and de-shaped, so I got US Battery 2000 215Ah. I've installed the batteries, stepped on the accelarator, the car kind of started moving strongly for 1 sec. then stopped. After this it hasn't moved. The solenoid is clicking when I depress the pedal, but nothing. One of the battery cable is thinned out from bending up and down...although I don't know if that would cause the issue. I'm an electrician knowing a little bit about electronics, so I have instruments to test all the components. What should be the first to test? The solenoid is clicking and transfers the voltage to the f/r switch and also transfer to the speed controller. Sorry about the long post, I tried to give alll the details I have. Also I've checked the diagram to test the motor, and I have continuity between S1-A2, but when I press the accelerator there is no continuity. Thanks in andvance for any help I can get. |

How about a pack voltage reading?
Were you able to find a wiring diagram for your cart in the stickies at the top of this section? Sorry I'm not much of a Yamaha tech |

The battery pack reads over 36V. Also I think the wiring diagram for the G2 in the stickies looks the same.

Did the cart run before the new batteries?

Yes, it did with the old ones perfectly, but it was week and ran out of battery quick. With the new batteries it kind of jumped like it was taking off, then nothing but the click from the solenoid.

Sounds like something melted or came un-done? You got any wires hanging? Cables broke?

Re: Yamaha G2 won't move after new batteries.
I did have the main + cable connection broke off on the solenoid side, but I got new cable and fixed that. The rest of the wiring looks good...I thought that with the new batteries it was pulling lots of amps and maybe melted an already weakened, corroded connection...I'll look at it more tomorrow, and at least test the batteries, to eliminate that one. Thanks for your reply!

If it ran before, and all your wire connections are correct, might want to check the "output" voltage on the solenoid. Just be cause it "clicks", doesn't mean voltage is flowing thru. Good luck

I have voltage across the F/R switch, so I'm thinking the solenoid is ok. Is there any way to test the speed control?
