Diagnosing g19/g22/The Drives

Sorry I'm not great about posting awnsers to questions on these carts. Even with a service manual and volt meter, a Zr1 tester harness and the PDA and software, these can be a pain. For example, had a customer with a g22 and he was dillagent doing the tests "by the service manual" and came up the controller was bad. He sent it to me, I sent it out to be rebuilt (OPS, said there were parts that needed to be replaced/fixed..and I trust them), sent it back to the customer and did not fix the problem. He made a 2 1/2 hour (one way) to have me check it out. By reading the computer with the PDA, found "error code..f/r switch open", pulled the drink holder, pulled the f/r plug in connection to the wire harness and it just fell apart because of "green" corrossion. Charged him 42.50 for shop minimum and bullet connectors to fix the problem "while he waited". Was the controller bad? I hope so, or I'd feel bad about OPS, but they have tested controllers before and returned them saying nothing was wrong. My story here is to minimize your repair costs. I'm not saying you can't fix/trouble shoot your cart, but there are times an authorized/reputable dealer or qualified golf cart mecahnic is your best and cheapest fix. In no way am I asking you to come to my shop. Just posted to give info for so many members that ask questions to diagnossing electrical problems with computor controlled Yamaha carts. Some are simple, some are hard, you must be the judge. Thanks for reading.

Great post Dave, I feel the same way. There are just times when taking a cart to a dealer is the going to be the least expensive fix. This is almost always the case with the newer electrics. When you do not have the equipment and training to test them properly. You can easily do more damage than the original problem or break the bank by trying to thow parts at it.
