Yamaha G9 battery problem?
Hey, i've got a 92 G9 electric cart and am having a problem i need help diagnosing. When i fully charge the batteries i can ride for about 20 minutes, after that if i stop the cart will not go again. There is no click from the seleniod then out of nowhere it will click over and go again, after pressing the accelarator a few times. now i know it could be a few things, the stop switch, the potentiometer, resistor or the batteries. I have already replaced the selenoid. My thought is the batteries, they are date coded J1 (Dec of 2001) which would make them almost 9 years old. My theory on this is that they discharge quickly and don't have enough voltage to flip over the selenoid. but when i get home and put my DVM on them they all read 6.1 volts. so that makes me wonder if it is something else (stop switch, the potentiometer or resistor). Any thoughts??

Re: Yamaha G9 battery problem?
First things first, the disclaimer: i dont know much about carts...
Even with the volts of the batteries seeming ok, they might not be carrying the required current (amps) to get you mobile. Are you sure your click is the solenoid? The only carts i have worked on leave the solenoid connected unless you turn them to the tow setting. When you first press the accelerator the accelerator stop switch will cause a click at the motor, perhaps that is the one playing up? I would start by accessing the accelerator stop switch, then when it wont go by its own accord bypass the switch. (Im not sure if that will involve making or breaking the circuit. I dont have a wiring diagram) That will rule out or confirm one aspect. |

Re: Yamaha G9 battery problem?
A load test give me an idea of the amps the batteries have right. I don't suspect the stop switch be cause it works fine on a full charge, but as the batteries drain that is when I experience the issue of it not clicking over which cold be the stop switch or potentiometer or the batteries being to weak to turn the solenoid over.
