92 G9E, High speed gears, and 4 guage wires

Looking for a little speed from my G9, its bone stock with new battery's. I'm thinking some high speed gears and a 4 gauge wire upgrade to help get back some of the torque. Will the stock controller deal OK with this? How much is life gonna suck? Mostly gonna be camp ground cruising so some small hills will be encountered.

Or is there a better way to get 20mph without spending ALOT of money?

I'd be worried about losing torque when everything else is stock on a gear change. Have you checked out Plum Quick, or just lifting it and putting some bigger tires will give you more top end. Depends what the end result is going to be? Besides once you hit 20, it won't be fast enough...trust me. Invest wisely my son. lol.

I had the same problem. I installed a Plum Quick motor and gained torque and a good bit top speed. I then ripped out all the resistor coil drive stuff(most burnt up in campground traffic)and replaced it with solid state drive components. I replaced the pot box (wiper switch), installed a Curtis 1204 controller,used stock solenoid and replaced all cables. The cart is extremely smooth and battery run time is about double. Speed before all this was 12 mph. Now it is up to 21 mph and I've got more adjusting on the pot box to get full throttle. I want to stay with 36 volts because my batteries are only 1 year old but I may go to 48 volts later. I really enjoy the cart now because dependability has also improved. Good luck with yours!!!

Did look into one of these two speed motors, need to get a price though...

As for 20 not being enough, we were involved in a golf cart accident a couple years ago, good friend got a concussion and a broken hip because of a cart going to fast and a dumb *** driver clipped a curb, the wife does NOT want a fast cart... 20 will be plenty.

I'm also going air ride and lowered for this cart so no lift or big tires...

Looking into the plum quick "bandit" it says its for 48v though, really don't feel like upgrading to 48v. Can it be run with a 36v system?

You can taken yours off and send it to them and they can do the Bandit number on it, I did mine(36V) the shiping was like 35.00.

Talked to them about it today. I think that's the way to go. Looking for a budget 48v controller also....

If it has a big coil spring looking thing on top of a "plate" under the seat, then it is a resistor coil drive cart. It will get "HOT" if you do a lot of very slow (3-5mph) cruising. That's what burned mine up. To eliminate the potential of this happening again, I switched everything over to solid state drive. Mine cart now is a Yamaha with Ezgo drive system. I also have the purple dusted Plum Quick motor. Cart is smooth, strong, and fast!! I'm happy!
