Our Police Dept 2007 Yamaha run time had dropped off, we were using it for a downtown event and it didn't last like it had in the past. I took my volt meter to work and ran me a copy of the battery chart from here and went and checked the batterys. Well the second one from the drivers side tested low. I took it back to the place we bought from and they of course didn't take my word they put it on a discharge machine then called me back later in afternoon and said yea it's the battery you said it was they replaced it. Of course they said that we be better off with a voltage reducer on it, I don't why they didn't suggest that when we put that whole thing together back in April. Vince

What is the recommended voltage reducer for?
Is this a 48v cart with 6x8v batteries?
One bad battery is likely just that and has little to do with your accessories unless they are on for hours.

I guess that "company" was implying that our accessories were harming the battery, they only get turned on mainly in the parades for maybe 30 minutes. When our shop wired the police lights and siren I told him to use the other batterys instead of the one they used to power the headlights ect, this cart has 4 12 volts do we really need a reducer?

Doug jump me if I am wrong but it seems you need an
auxiliary battery for the extras.

IMO you don't need a reducer especially if the load is split.
What was wired to the bad battery?
I'm not fond of the 4x12v battery setup as too many have manufacturers have had problems. Club Car went back to 6x8v.

You're not wrong and it's a great idea, I'm just not sure if there is a spot to put one on that cart.
Also I don't think it is the accessories that are causing the problem. I think it's just a bad battery.

The siren and light bar and some rear led strobes are wired to that battery that's it, the siren control box has a PA also, the guy said a reducer would help pull power from all four battery, if I heard him right (cell phone) he said that they'll replace" this time" but..... referring to get a reducer on it because of our accessories

Like DOOmsman mentioned above, if you have room to put an aux battery to run your accs, that would be best. Cost for a deep cycle 12v about $80.
If you put a reducer in cost is $150+.
If you are mixing 2007 batteries with a new one, you may experience overcharging of the new one which may ruin it. It's always best to replace all batteries at the same time.

The batterys are 2010 , the guy told us the reducer was 90.00 plus hour labor, but our city shop will have to do it since we re' under a contract, now I hope if they dont know how to hook it up they would sub it out to one the golf cart shops that do that kind of thing day in and day out. Thanks for all the input. V
