Just swapped motor. 5 mph increase. Need more...
I have a G22 and just replaced the stock motor this evening with an Admiral high-speed motor (made by a company called Red Hawk, I believe). It is advertised at 8.0HP (although it reads 13.5HP on the motor itself). Last night (before the swap), I made 6 short runs (3 each way) at a distance of 330 feet. My average time for the 6 runs was 18.43 seconds. That translates to 12.2 mph. Tonight, after the swap, I did the same runs and my average time was 13.22 seconds. This translates to 17.0 mph.
I am currently running the stock controller. I am happy the cart is now a bit faster, but was hoping for more. The dealer I bought the motor from said I should get at least 19 mph. Depending where you look, this motor advertises a top speed anywhere from 19-23 mph. Does 17 mph sound about right for a top speed for the type of swap I just did (while still using the stock controller)? Would a higher amp-rated controller get me a higher top speed, or would it only increase the torque? On page 116-117 of their catalog... http://epaperflip.com/aglaia/viewer....c5fbd87ca35df5 , they offer a performance package consisting of the motor, an Alltrax 400 AMP controller, a diode, resistor, and heavy duty solenoid. What are the benefits of the upgraded diode, resistor, and solenoid? In regards to my current set-up, what's the best way to reach that magical 23 mph mark? Mechanically, everything looks good. I've already upgraded my battery cables to 4-guage. Batteries are less than a year old. Like some have suggested, I tried disconnecting the regen function after the swap this evening, but that didn't make it any faster. Thanks in advance for any insight. |

Your stock controller is restricting the top speed. An aftermarket controller will not do that.

Re: Just swapped motor. 5 mph increase. Need more...
Thanks for the reply. What would you recommend for a controller for my particular set-up? 400 amp? 500? Higher? I only use the cart for street use here in North Myrtle Beach (mostly flat with very few small hills/inclines). Therefore, I'm not overly concerned with torque. I'd be happy with 20+ mph (but of course more would be better). Just want something that'll keep me up to speed to keep the tourists happy when they follow behind me. Ideally, I'd like to go as inexpensive of a route as possible. Also, is there any way to modify the stock GE controller to reach 400-500 amp levels?

I'm actually finding out a lot of this in your link right now. Good info.

12.2 mph stock sounds a tad slow to begin with. My stock g22 runs about 15 mph per the GPS on flat to mildly hilly ground so I could see it reaching 20 with a high speed motor. I'm looking to reach the 23 - 25 mph top speed too.

It probably needs to be programmed. I am in the Chicago area and I could program it for free if you are nearby.
