Thanks guys. I'm looking to build it for my hunting camp. Not trying to get to crazy with it but would like a little more ground clearence. I won't be doing any hardcore off roading just mostly dirt roads and some fields.

you can but you won't have the run time or power you would get from 6 6 volt batteries.

Ok. Cool, makes sense. Just trying to learn as I go here. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but when it comes to electrical... forget about it!!! What do you guys suggest as far as lift and size tires without having to upgrade to 48 volt, speed controller ect...

Lift and tires depend on what you're willing to spend.

Check out the site sponsers.

A few months ago I acquired an '85 G1 with the same intentions as you. I choose a Jake's 6 inch lift and 22x11 tires on 10in rims, however being a resistor cart started to pose a problem... A resistor cart draws full amperage from the battery pack at all times regardless of speed, also creeping around with large tires tended to cause the resistor to turn cherry red which in my pastures is a fire hazard. long story short I converted to solid state for safety and longer run time. It cost a few pennies but I love it.

Simple upgrades include 4 gauge battery cables and sending your motor off to Plum Quick and letting them rewind it for you. I didn't chose that route but many on the forum have. If you want a smaller lift I think all sports makes a 4" lift but I'm not sure it may only be for the G1. You can also make your own lift if you have the tools and time.

Either way wait a bit and you'll get more advice from the more experience gentlemen.

Thanks Joe. Could you explain to me what converting to solid state is and what parts are involved in doing this. Man! I hate asking so many ?'s...lol. Also I'm thinking a 4" would be plenty for me. I do have quite a bit of tools. I own a Home improvement Co. and have a shop with just about everything in it. Welder, mechanics tools ect... so with a little help I figured I can handle this. I'm in no hurry just want it right. I'm going to take the plastics off today and have Tarjac dip them in Max4 camo for me. They are right up the road from me.

To convert to solid state you'll need a speed controller, HD contactor, Potentiometer, maybe a new Forward/Reverse Switch. My G1 used the key switch and a couple solenoids to select forward and reverse so it had to go when converted. I'm not experienced with the G2 so I'm not sure of it's setup. you can view my thread http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...onversion.html it has some more info for converting.

gotta go
